Henley misses cut at Texas
A bogey on the 17th hole of the day, No. 8, ended up finishing Russell Henley’s weekend in San Antonio.
The Stratford grad was joined by the likes of Keith Mitchell, Max Homa, Sepp Straka, and Rickie Fowler as players on the outside looking in after two rounds of the Valero Texas Open.
Henley was in a group of 16 that finished 1-under on a day when the cut line was 2-under.
It was a mundane few days for Henley, with five birdies and four bogeys.
A miss on a par putt of less than seven feet on the par-5, 622-yard No. 8 doomed Henley, who was 307 yards off the tee on the hole.
On his other bogey, he barely missed par, a 45-footer settling less than three feet from the cup.
From golfweek.com: “On paper, Henley should’ve been set up for a great week. The stats indicate he did a lot of things right – eighth in proximity, T-16 in driving accuracy. 21st in SG: Around the Green.
“So what went wrong? A cold putter Thursday and too many missed greens. He holed an 81-foot bunker shot at the fourth for birdie to jump to 2 under but he took three putts from 44 feet at No. 8 to fall on the wrong side of the cutline. Henley shot 72-71 and can hit the road for Augusta early.”
