Henley improves a little at Masters
Ah, how optimism at Augusta can be such a tease.
Like Saturday, when Russell Henley’s day – after shooting a 77 – started so nicely with two birdies, matching his total from Friday.
Then came a bogey. Soon after, two more, and so much for a relaxing round, Henley bounced by his first double bogey of the tournament early on the back nine en route to a 2-over 74 for the day.
Normally not much to smile about, that score was three shots better than Friday, and bumped him up into a tie for 45th with Jason Day.
Sliding past Henley downward on the leaderboard were top-50 players Erik van Rooyen, Eric Cole, Denny McCarthy, Jake Knapp, Grayson Murray and Adam Hadwin.
Tiger Woods crashed with a 10-over 82 to fall fifth from last.
Henley did have some cause for a little renewed optimism, with birdies on 13 and 14 and a finish with four straight pars, for the first time all weekend.
He and Day tee off at 10:25 a.m. on Sunday.
