The season was almost starting to slip away for Mercer.
Now the Bears have won three straight, the latest a 6-4 upset of top-ranked - or No. 2, depending on the poll - Florida in Gainesville.

Braves tie it with big ninth, lose in 12
Atlanta stormed back with four runs in the ninth to tie it, but Scooter Gennett delivered a walk-off homer for a 9-7 Cincinnati win.
The game-winner, which overshadowed two Freddie Freeman homers, came off Max Fried, who was called up earlier in the day from Gwinnett.
College Baseball: MGSU belts out 5 homers in romp
The Knights improved to 37-15 wth 5 homers in a 15-5 7-inning rout of Toccoa Falls.
College Golf: Schorr leads Mercer to fifth place
Stanton Schorr shot a 5-under 67 to finish tied for second to lead Mercer in the Southern Conference men's golf tournament final round.
The Bears took fifth place with a 41-over 905, four strokes behind Furman.
Lino Galdin tied for 11th at 223, Spencer Ball and Jerry Ren were among those tied at 23rd, with Hayes Rule at 35th.
College Tennis: Georgia College advances to NCAA tennis tournament
The Georgia College men's and women's tennis teams are headed east for the first round of the NCAA Division II tournament.
Georgia College's women, 15-7 and ranked 25th, are a 2 seed and will face North Georgia at Wingate on Saturday in 24 straight tournaments, the longest active streak in Division II women's tennis.
The Bobcat men, 11-10 and ranked 25th, got an at-large bid and are a 7 seed in the Southeast Region II. They're in the tournament for the 12th straight time.

Former Stratford standout Mary Wilson Avant is having a season with Georgia, and is the latest SEC softball pitcher of the week.
Avant went 3-0, allowing only 1 run i 18 innings against USC Upstate, and Kentucky. She whiffed a season-high eight against UK with no walks.
She is 7-1 i 67.2 innings with 60 strikeouts and a .72 ERA. ...
Middle Georgia State's Margaret Simmons is the latest Southern States Athletic Conference player of the week.
The freshman from Dodge County batted .350 with 3 HRs in 3 straight games, including a walk-off homer, helping the Knights to a 5-1 record. It's her second honor of the season.
