College Baseball: Mercer brings out big bats to thump VMI

          The Bears belted six homers to give Christian Vann plenty of breathing room in an 11-3 win over VMI.

          Vann struck out 10 in seven innings and JT Thomas drove in four runs.

College Baseball: Georgia College takes series from No. 5 Columbus State

          Georgia College was down 5-0 after one and 6-3 after five.

          No problem. The Bobcats scored 5 in the sixth, sparked by a Logan Mattix grand slam, and topped fifth-ranked Columbus State.

          The Bobcats have won every Peach Belt series to finish 26-4 in the regular season, and with a four-game lead over USC Aiken. Columbus State is 18-8 in conference play, and tied Georgia College for the best overall record at 38-10.

College Baseball: Tennessee holds off Georgia comeback

          Tennessee took a 5-0 lead and then survived Georgia's rally for a 6-5 win to salvage a game in the series.

College Baseball: Wake Forest salvages series with win over Tech

          Georgia Tech stranded 12 runners on seven hits, and Wake Forest took advantage with a 6-3 win to avoid a full sweep in the ACC series.

College Softball: Bats come alive in series finale for Mercer

          Mercer spoiled Western Carolina's senior day with 16 hits en route to a 7-4 win.

          The Bears survived a rough day on defense, with five errors.

College Softball: Georgia College a 2 seed in PBC Tournament

          By sweeping Columbus State on Saturday, Georgia College earned the No. 2 seed in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.

          The Bobcats are No. 2 for the second time in three years, and open Friday at 1:30 p.m. against No. 7 Augusta.

          The single-elimination, eight-team tournament will be played at North Georgia, which is the top seed.

          The Bobcats are 35-13, the second-best percentage in the league, behind North Georgia, which is 53-2.

 

Braves get lead on first pitch, cruise past Phillies

          Ozzie Albies sent the game's first pitch over the wall, and the rout was on as Atlanta rolled to a 10-1 win over Philadelphia.
