James Liipfert is moving to a new job in an unfamiliar state, but at least he’ll be ready for the weather.

The former Westfield standout is moving to the Houston Texans as director of college scouting, moving from New England, where he was a national scout.

The move is being reported by media outlets, but hasn’t been announced.

Liipfert went from Westfield to Georgia Tech, and then to the NFL in the front office. He has been with the Patriots for nine years, moving up to the national scout spot three years ago.

Liipfert worked with Houston head coach Bill O’Brien when O’Brien was with the Patriots. O’Brien was an assistant at Georgia Tech from 1995-2002, leaving just before Liipfert arrived for the 2004 season.

Liipfert joined the Patriots in 2009 as a scouting assistant. O’Brien was with the Patriots from 2007-11.

He’ll join an organization that’s home to another Central Georgian, cornerback and Westside grad Kareem Jackson.

Houston followed three straight 9-7 seasons with a 4-12 mark in 2017.
