Mother Nature makes FPD and Tattnall wait a day
A day of rain with a few teasing breaks kept FPD and Tattnall in anxious modes to see if they would get any part of their GHSA Class A private semifinal series in as scheduled.
Nope.
There was, in fact, no break in the rain so game officials finally decided nearly two and a half hours after scheduled first pitch to give up on Tuesday and hope Wednesday is better.
They'll try again at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, but Weather.com and Accuweather.com indicate between a 40-70 percent chance of rain in the late afternoon.
The winner advances to the championship game at Mercer's OrthoGeorgia Park next week.
Middle Georgia State eliminated in tight game from NAIA tournament
The Knights kept things interesting for two games in the NAIA baseball tournament, but couldn't convert interesting into wins, losing 4-3 in 10 innings to British Columbia to end the season.
Zach Cornell and Jack Bell IV had two hits each for the Knights, who stranded seven more runners than British Columbia.
Middle Georgia State got a run in the top of the 10th on MJ Rookard's single and steal, Zach Cornell's fly out and Blake Jackson's sacrifice fly.
BC got the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th on three singles and a sacrifice fly.
The Knights finish the season at 45-18.
Bleckley County stays within for new boys basketball coach
Familiarity won't be a problem for Bleckley County's new head boys basketball coach.
The county board of education approved Tuesday night the promotion of Garrett Collins from the same middle-school position.
Collins played at Bleckley County and graduated in 2009 and Middle Georgia with an associate and Georgia with a bachelor's degree.
He took over the middle school program in 2017-18 and joined the Bleckley County varsity football staff.
Collins replaces Randall Owens, who left after a season to join Brett Hardy's staff at Veterans.
Hawks, new coach do well in NBA lottery
Atlanta will have the third pick in the NBA draft on June 21.

The fan base will be up in arms for a day or two after some controversial calls in Atlanta's 3-2 home loss to the Chicago Cubs.
Mercer picks up power-5 transfer
Mercer has plucked a transfer in recent years from the SEC, and now the Bears have taken in a player from the Big 12.
The school announced the transfer of 6-11 forward Maciej Bender from West Virginia, where he played in 35 games last season
College Baseball: Georgia Tech guts out win
Georgia Tech rebounded well after finishing a game at Virginia at 1 a.m. Monday by beating Southeast Missouri 8-5 at home.
College Tennis: Middle Georgia State tennis teams win win
The Knights women's tennis team got off to a good start in the NAIA national tournament, beating Cumberland 6-3. They'll play at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The men topped Asbury 8-1 and play at 2 p.m.
Georgia College tennis player named to PBC Hall
A former Georgia College women's tennis player has been elected to the Peach Belt Conference Hall of Fame.
Lilia Biktyakova (now Lilia McMichael) was a four-time All-American from 1998-2001, becoming one of the initial league tennis players to make all-conference all four years.
