Mercer's Yeager, UGA's McGovern, and Tech's Bart take conference OTY - ___ Of The Year - honors

          Mercer, Georgia, and Georgia Tech all had players take headline conference honors as the Southern Conference, SEC, and ACC announced their all-conference teams Monday, as did the Sun Belt.

          Mercer’s RJ Yeager is the Southern Conference freshman of the year, Keegan McGovern of Georgia the SEC’s co-scholar-athlete of the year, and Georgia Tech’s Joey Bart took home overall player of the year and defensive player of the year.

          Yeager is hitting .335, starting all 55 games for Mercer. He has six homers and 41 RBI, with 12 doubles. In conference play, he hit .319 with three homers and 13 RBI.

          McGovern is the first Bulldog to win the scholar-athlete award since Gordan Beckham in 2008. He needs one class for a biology degree. The two-time member of the conference community service team is also regular member of the SEC academic honor roll.

          Bart is ranked among the top three catchers in Division I baseball, thanks to a .368 average, .481 on-base percentage, 16 homers and 38 runs. More than a third of his hits have gone for extra bases, and he’s a semifinalist for the Johnny Bench Award for top catcher.

         He was named Monday as a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.
