Veterans alum Holt takes Big 12 freshman of the year honor at Texas Tech

          Texas Tech went a long way to get Gabe Holt.

          The Veterans grad is giving the Red Raiders their money’s worth, and immediately.

          Holt was named the Big 12 freshman of the year Tuesday as the Red Raiders get ready for conference tournament play and a run at Omaha.

          One media outlet pondered Holt’s place in the race for player of the year.

          After all, he’s in the conference top 10 in more offensive categories than he’s not, and is a remarkable 27 of 27 in stolen bases.

          The Red Raiders open the conference tournament Wednesday night against TCU.
