Stratford, Perry alums and Mercer, UGA players highlight Macon Bacon roster

The Macon Bacon will have some players this summer on the roster who can sleep in their own beds when the team is in town.
Connor Corbitt of Stratford and Cal Gentry of Perry are among the more than two dozen players on the list released by the team Friday.
And those two know each other as competitors in the Peach Belt Conference, Corbitt for North Georgia and Gentry for Georgia College.
Corbitt batted .287 for the Nighthawks, with 13 homers and 44 RBI. Gentry helped the Bobcats to the regular-season and tournament titles by hitting .300 with 3 doubles and 30 RBI while also stealing 11 bases.
Mercer, which plays Saturday in the Southern Conference Tournament, has a trio on the team: infielders Sean McDermott and Brandon Michie, and catcher/infielder Alex Crotty.
Michie has played in 35 of Mercer’s 57 games and is hitting .388 with eight homers and 42 RBI. McDermott and Crotty have played in 37 games.
Catcher Austin Holloway, a teammate of Gentry’s at Georgia College, is on the roster.
Corbitt’s teammates Andres Perez and Jake Arnold are on the team.
Georgia freshman pitchers Jordan Dubberly of Jeff Davis and James Williams and infielder Riley King are among the 13 in-state high school products.
West Virginia, Air Force, Iowa, Furman, Southern Illinois, and Texas-San Antonio are among the colleges represented.
Macon opens the season on May 31 at Savannah, and welcomes Lexington, S.C. County on June 1 in the home opener, with Savannah visiting a day later.
