          A 3-run fifth was the difference for the Warhawks in the series-clinching win. Matthew Nunez led Veterans with a 2-for-3 night with 3 RBI, all coming on a fifth-inning double, while Jeremy Horton and Jacob Pierce each scored twice. Derek Wylie and Jackson Williams did the pitching for Veterans, which will be at home in the next round of the 5A playoffs.

          The Indians couldn't have suffered much more heartbreak, losing a slugfest and then a normal game, both by a run.

Elbert County 11, Lamar County 9; Elbert County 5, Lamar County 1

          Lamar County tied it at 9 with 5 in the top of the fifth, but Elbert County retook the lead with 2 in the bottom half and held on. Caleb Thompson went 3-for-5 with 4 RBI for the Trojans in the opener.

FPD 5, Calvary Day 2; FPD 9, Calvary Day 1

          The Vikings advanced to the Elite 8 for the first time since 2013. FPD scored 4 in the first inning of the opener, led by Ryan Jones' 2 hits and 6 efficient innings from Noah Takac and a clinching seventh from Garrett West. The Vikings put the nightcap away with 6 in the fourth. A bases-loaded hit by pitch got th einning going, and Gavin Bloodworth added a 3-run double to highlight the inning. Bloodworth drove in 4 runs on 3 hits and West 2 runs on 2 hits. Tyler Mimbs went the distance for the win.

Houston County 4, Heritage 1; Houston County 1, Heritage 0, 10 inn.

          Heritage had 5 errors, so 3 of the Bears' 4 runs in the opener were unearned, Houston County stranding 9 runners. Cam Jones fanned 7 with 2 walks in the complete-game win. Logan Morris drove in 2 of Houston County's runs. In the nightcap, the Bears got 2 in the top of the seventh, runs coming in on a wild pitch third strike and then a bases-loaded walk. Heritage got a 2-out walk in the bottom of the seventh, but that was it. Near-perfect small-ball play won the second game. Dillon Toms singled, Connor Martin sacrificed him to second, and Jacob Profit brought him in with a single to left to win the game. Chandler Dawson struck out 7 with 2 walks in 7 innings, and Bryant Rowell went the final 3. Heritage pitchers fanned 8 with no walks, and the hosts stranded 10 in the nightcap.

Tattnall 13, Brookstone 2; Tattnall 3, Brookstone 2

          The Trojans set the tone for the day with, well, all of their runs in the first inning of the opener. Logan Fink and Trey Ham each had a homer and double in the first inning, and the Trojans got other run-scoring extra-base hits from Dawson Brown and Luke Laskey . Fink and Ham had 2 hits and 4 RBI each, while Luke Laskey drove in 4 on 2 hits - including a first-inning triple - and Brown 2 on 1. Laskey fanned 7 and walked 1 in 5 innings. The Trojans trailed 2-1 after five, but scored 2 in the sixth and held on. Tattnall scored in the sixth courtesy of a hit batter, sacrifice and error, fielder's choice grounder, RBI single by Brown, runner-advancing fly ball, and Brooks Gorman's single to left. Gorman, meanwhile, finished a complete game by retiring the side in order in the bottom of the sixth and seventh, ending with 6Ks and 0 BBs.

West Laurens 7, Eastside 6; West Laurens 3, Eastside 2

          Eastside scored 6 in the top of the seventh to take a 6-4 lead, only for the Raiders to score 3 in the bottom half, the game-winner coming Bradey Wilson's single to center to bring in Guy Anderberg for the win. Anderberg drove in the first 2 runs of the frame with a double to left. Anderberg, EJ Holmes, and Jacob Floyd had 2-hit openers for the Raiders, Wade Brantley and Floyd handling the pitching. In the nightcap, the Raiders scored 2 in the top of the seventh and held Eastside to 1 in the bottom half to survive. Both came in on a single by EJ Holmes to center. Starter Nolan Daniel got the third out in the bottom half with the bases loaded. Daniel had 2 hits and Holmes 2 RBI in the second game.

Whitewater 15, Veterans 0; Veterans 10, Whitewater 6

          The hosts were close through 4 innings, down 3-0, but Whitewater came up with 6 runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Veterans was held to only 2 hits in the opener. The Warhawks' offense awakened in the nightcap, in which the teams combined for 10 errors, 6 by the Warhawks, who gave up 5 unearned runs. Veterans took a 6-1 lead after 2, watched Whitewater get some offense going and pull within 8-4. Jacob Pierce had 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Warhawks, who scored on only 7 hits. Cole Hooks was able to hold Whitewater to only one run in the bottom of the seventh.

          Athens got on the board in the 47th minute and added another 16 minutes later, but Jake Jamison cut the deficit in half at the 77th minute. The Eagles were held out of goal the rest of the way.

Druid Hills 2, Perry 2 (DH 3-1 in PKs)

          Perry led 1-0 deep into the second half, but Druid Hills tied it late, and the top-10 hosts won a heartbreaker on penalty kicks.

          Savannah Country Day led 2-1 at halftime and made it hold up. GMC ended the season 17-3, and loses 5 seniors from the team.

Upson-Lee 6, Eastside 1

          Chase Winters had 2 goals and Brandon Martinez 1 to lead the Knights to a 3-0 halftime lead. Winters got the hat trick with 36 minutes left . Berklei Rakestraw and Drae McDuffie closed out the scoring for the top-10 Knights.

          The hosts got on the board with 26 minutes left in the half, and scored again 4 minutes later, upping the lead to 3-0 not long after.
