Dasher finishes 11th in state amateur
Luke Dasher of Macon started the CSGA state amateur golf tournament well and had the lead, but the course was stingy in the second round, and he finished 11th.
Brett Barron of Suwanee had four sub-70 rounds for a 271 and four-stroke win.
Stan Gann of Warner Robins tied for 22nd with a 284
Dasher, a junior at FPD, opened with a tournament-leading 65 after a round, but lost 10 strokes in the second round before finishing with a respectable 69 and 71 for a 280
Dasher won the state junior title last month with a three-round 211 at Rivermont Golf Club. Wilson Andress, an FPD grad headed to Georgia Southern, was tied for 11th t 223.
Macon loses in walk-off on the road
Macon scored two in the top of the ninth for the lead, but Gastonia answered with the walk-off for a 4-3 win despite three errors.
Riley King doubled and Brandon Michie singled for a run, and scored two outs later on CJ Bush’s single.
Gastonia won it on a walk, wild pitch, passed ball, and single.
Michie went 2-for-4 for Macon, which got a nice five-inning start from Witt Campbell – son of Peach County assistant football coach Lee Campbell and playing at Middle Georgia State - who gave up a run on five hits, with three strikeouts and one walk.
Macon is 18-17 and in second place in the South, a good bit behind 25-11 and a half-game up on Florence.
The Bacon are at Savannah on Tuesday and host the Bananas a night later.
Freeman edged by Harper, who rolls to win
Bryce Harper and Freddie Freeman were paired up in the MLB Home Run Derby, in Washington, and the hometowner won 13-12 in the first round.
So Freeman then got to watch Harper go on and nip Max Muncy 13-12, and finally beat Kyle Schwarber 19-18 in dramatic fashion to win the derby.
