Cephus’s lawyers claim evidence proves his innocence
The court appearance for Quintez Cephus lasted less than 15 minutes, but his lawyers stated then and afterward confidence that his innocence of sexual assault charges will be proven.
They say there is videotape and text message evidence that one woman was in no way too intoxicated to consent to sex. The attorneys are asking that charge, second degree involving intoxication, be dismissed.
As of now, they have not yet sought dismissal of the third-degree sexual assault charge.
Cephus was released on a signature bond and must reappear on Sept. 6. He has been suspended, as has his roommate Danny Davis.
The AP story reports that former Stratford boys basketball coach Jamie Dickey attended the hearing.
“He’s a son to me,” Dickey told reporters. “I’m confident he will be exonerated and he’ll be owed an apology by the time this is all said and done.”

First Macon TD Club players of the week named

The junior was perfect on three PATs – despite some off-target snaps – in the Huskies’ 34-28 loss to Jones County.
She is believed to be the first Bibb County female football player to score points in a varsity game.
Northeast’s Cameron Hill is the lineman of the week after 10 solos, three assists, three tackles for loss and a pass breakup in the loss to Trinity Christian.
Mount de Sales’ Dexter Williams is the back of the week after 76 passing yards and a touchdown, and 189 yards on 26 carries and a score, plus two tackles and a pass breakup in the win over Monticello.
Mayhem to return pair
Brandon Parrone and Seth Ronsberg will be back in a Mayhem uniform this season.
