The seventh-seeded Bobcats and second-seed Bearcats were at 0-0 through all the timed portions, and Georgia College got the game-winning goal from freshman Lydia Atkinson and the big-time goalkeeping from Ashlee Graham. Georgia College (10-5-4) plays Young Harris in a semifinal Friday at 8 p.m. in Evans.

Final softball poll out, 10 area teams make it
Nobody from Central Georgia played for a GHSA state softball championship, but plenty made it to Columbus, and thus the final ScoreAtlanta poll of the season.
The area was most represented in AA and A.
Monticello is No. 3 in AA, with Dodge County No. 5 and Bleckley County No. 9. FPD is NO. 3 in Class A Private, followed in order by Tattnall, Mount de Sales, and Stratford.
Others: Houston County No. 6 in 6A, West Laurens and Perry 7-8 in 4A.
Alumni Update: West Laurens grad Thomas traded to Houston
Central Georgians have another reason to pull a little bit on Sundays for Houston, now that the Texans have added West Laurens’ Demaryius Thomas to the roster.
Denver traded Thomas to Houston on Tuesday, and he’ll join Westside grad Kareem Jackson with the Texans.
Thomas, who played at Georgia Tech, was drafted by Denver in 2010 and immediately became an impact player on the field – five Pro Bowl selections – and a popular player off.
Georgia College women get some preseason love
Georgia College will open the women’s basketball season on the verge of a regional ranking in one poll.
The Bobcats are a few points from No. 10 in the Division II Sports Information Directors Association poll.
Seniors Sydney Cleveland, Shay Tarver, and Erin Drynan form the nucleus of the returnees for head coach Maurice Smith.
Georgia College opens the season on Nov. 9 against Wingate at Clayton State.
