Mercer dominates SoCon men’s soccer awards

The Bears took home three of the four individual honors in Southern Conference men’s soccer, and had five first-teamers and three second-teamers plus three of the top freshmen.

Brad Ruzzo won his second coaching honor, and was joined by player and freshman of the year Trevor Martineau. He was also the conference player of the month.

Regular-season champ Mercer (12-3-2, 5-1) battles fifth seed UNCG (7-8-2, 2-2-2) at 3:3 p.m. Friday in the conference tournament semifinals at ETSU. Mercer beat UNCG 3-0 earlier this season.

Mercer defends Idle Hour title

Terese Romeo finished second to spark Mercer to its third straight Idle Hour Collegiate Championship.

The Bears lost 10 strokes from each of the first two rounds and shot 6-over overall, but still won by 22 strokes over Toledo. Georgia Southern finished fifth.

McGarity talks about some interesting scheduling topics
