Class 6A

Pope 8, Houston County 0; Pope 7, Houston County 0; Houston County eliminated

          Pope got what it needed with three in the first, holding the Bears to two hits and no walks while striking out eight. The hosts got off to a 4-0 lead after two in the nightcap, rolling despite being outhit 9-8. Averi Martin, Makayla Krepps, and Bobbi Poff each had two hits for the Bears, who end the season at 26-7.

Class 5A

Jones County 16, Lithia Springs 2; Jones County 7, Lithia Springs 2; Jones County advances to Columbus

          The Greyhounds pounded out 17 hits in the opener, going from a 2-1 deficit after two to an 8-2 lead after three, adding eight in the fourth. They were led by three-hit games from Madison Bennett, Mackenzie Kilpatrick, Destin Howard, and Stephanie Youngblood. Kloey Goins drove in four runs on two hits, while Youngblood and Makinsey Long had two RBI each. Kenzie Forrester fanned four with three hits in the four-inning game. They took control of the nightcap with four in the first. Bennett, Youngblood, and Maggie Glover had two hits each, Bennett and Howard driving in two runs each. Savannah Williams went six for the win.

Carrollton 5, Veterans 2; Carrollton 8, Veterans 1

          Carrollton’s five-run third was enough, despite three errors. The Warhawks were held to five hits, and walked only once, stranding but four in the opener. The Warhawks had five errors in the nightcap, good for five unearned runs. Carrollton led 6-1 after three. Kaylee Brown and Emily Myers had two hits each for Veterans.

Class 4A

Oconee County at Perry, Thursday, 4:30 p.m.

Madison County 3, West Laurens 2; Madison County 7, West Laurens 0; West Laurens eliminated

Class 3A

Calhoun 9, at Rutland 1; Calhoun 9, Rutland 2; Rutland eliminated

          Rutland kept it close, 3-0 for four innings before Calhoun took control with three in the fifth, aided along the way by four Hurricane errors. Lacey Caldwell had two hits for Rutland. Calhoun’s six-run fourth was counted by two from Rutland in the top of the fifth, but the Yellow Jackets followed up with three in the bottom half. Caldwell and Kinleigh King had two hits each, Bailey Caldwell driving in two runs with a homer, King with a first-game solo shot.

Class AA

Lamar County at Dodge County, Thursday, 5 p.m (Friday, 5 p.m.)

Heard County 9, Bleckley County 0; Heard County 18, Bleckley County 5; Bleckley County eliminated

Rockmart 12, East Laurens 0; Rockmart 16, East Laurens 0; East Laurens eliminated

Monticello at Jeff Davis, Thursday, 4 p.m.

Class A Public

Trion 12, ACE 7; no second game report

          The Gryphons were down 6-4 after three before Trion put up six runs to take control. ACE committed six errors, Trion getting eight unearned runs. Dixiana Sims had three hits and three runs, Mary Elizabeth Ballard two hits and Lizzy Mitchell two RBI.

GMC at Schley County, Thursday, 4:30 p.m.

Marion County 7, Hawkinsville 2; no second game report

          Marion County took advantage of six errors, to the tune of four unearned runs. The hosts also took advantage of four walks to go with seven hits. Ashanti Edwards had two of Hawkinsville’s four hits.

Class A Private

Tattnall 13, Landmark Christian 1; Tattnall 8, Landmark Christian 0; Tattnall advances

          An 11-run explosion in the second turned it into a 3.5-inning game. The Trojans needed only eight hits, thanks in part to seven walks, and four RBI from Kaitlyn Hallman on a homer and double. Logan Oller drove in three runs, and Jaelyn Darley and Lindsey Paul two each. Kaci Paul added two hits, Kenna Epps throwing a two-hitter in four innings. The nightcap lasted five innings, the Trojans putting up six in the fourth. Darley went 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs, while Kaci Paul added two hits and Courtney Ball and Oller two RBI each. Hailey Daughtry threw a one-strikeout, no-walk one-hitter in five innings.

Savannah Christian at Stratford, Thursday, 3 p.m.

Mount de Sales 9, Prince Avenue 0; Mount de Sales 8, Prince Avenue 7

          The Cavs’ three in the sixth proved to be the difference after Prince Avenue scored four in the seventh. MdS doubled up PAC in hits, 14-7, but had three errors. Jordyn Partain fanned 10 with two walks and seven hits, getting two hits herself, as did Henderson Hurdle and Ava DellaDonna, Sarah Hatcher and Heartly Nepveux leading the way with three hits each, two doubles from Hatcher. Nepveux drove in four runs. A two-run third put MdS up 3-2 in an action-packed nightcap, the teams matching four-run fourths and one-run fifths. Reliever Partain  struck out six in two innings of work, including an inning-ender in the sixth after PAC got a pair of two-out runners. McKenna Smith drove in three runs on two hits and Hatcher had four hits and two RBI for the Cavs, Hurdle scoring three times.
