GHSA Playoffs
Class 4A
Oconee County 8, Perry 6; Oconee County 14, Perry 12; Perry eliminated
The opener was close, the Warriors scoring five in the sixth and the Panthers four, but Oconee County’s two-run fifth to Perry’s one was the key. The Panthers stranded three more runners than the Warriors, both teams with 12 hits. Terra Odom, AliRae Dykes, Carleigh Turrell, and Carsen Garner had two hits each for Perry, Dykes wit three RBI and two runs and Harley Crumley with two RBI. The nightcap was closer, and more of a heartbreaker. Perry trailed 2-0, led 3-2, gave up four in the fourth, and both teams were scoring. Perry scored four in the top of the seventh to tie it only for Oconee County to get a two-out single on a bunt followed by a first-pitch walk-off homer. Perry outhit Oconee County 24-17, and stranded 11 to five for Oconee County, thus the Panthers leaving 22 on base to 13 for the Warriors.
Class AA
Lamar County 16, Dodge County 3; Lamar County 11, Dodge County 0; Lamar County advances, Dodge County eliminated
Jeff Davis 5, Monticello 1; Jeff Davis 2, Monticello 0; Monticello eliminated
The Yellow Jackets put together back-to-back two-run innings late to pull away after a 1-1 first-inning tie. Jasmine Stone’s three hits at leadoff were half of Monticello’s hits, the Hurricanes struck out only twice. Two in the second inning was enough for Jeff Davis in the nightcap, thanks to one-hit pitching, the Hurricanes again putting the ball in play – one strikeout- to no avail. Bailey Jenkins went the distance in the loss, allowing only seven hits.
Class A Public
Trion 12, ACE 7; Trion 5, ACE 1 (late report); ACE eliminated
Schley County 5, GMC 1; GMC 8, Schley County 7
Schley County went up 5-1 after two in the opener, and that was enough, outhitting GMC by two. Mallory Watts had three hits and Leah Jannakos two for GMC. GMC coughed up four runs in the top of the sixth to trail 7-6, but the Bulldogs came up with the walk-off in the seventh inning of the nightcap on Josie Deason’s single to right to drive in Watts with the winner. Courtesy runner Jordan Spear – on for Bella Herring, who singled – advanced on an error and sacrifice and came in to tie it on an error. Deason and Makenna Talcott had two hits each, Mary Katherine Lawrence driving in two runs.
