Mercer baseball program earns national top-100 ranking, again
For the third time, Mercer’s baseball program has been rated among the top 100 Division I teams in the nation by D1Baseball.com.
The Bears check in at No. 86, after ranking No. 82 in 2015 and No. 75 in 2017.
Mercer along with LSU, Vanderbilt, and Florida State are the only Division I programs to win at least 35 games a year the past 10 years. They’ve won at least 38 games three of the last five seasons.
Mercer is the only Southern Conference team to make the top 100. Former Atlantic Sun rival Stetson is No. 57
There are 299 Division I programs, putting Mercer in the top 29 percent.
Georgia is ranked 29th and Georgia Tech 42nd.
State lawmakers, others have a sitdown looking at the GHSA … again
A group of state lawmakers as well as area athletics directors and outsiders met with GHSA executive director Robin Hines in Savannah on Tuesday to ask questions about the association.
A state senate committee taking a look at the workings of the GHSA expects to have perhaps two more meetings and deliver its findings in a few months.
The GHSA regularly undergoes increased scrutiny from a small collection of legislators.
