The Hurricanes took awhile to get going in the opener, but sealed it pretty quickly with four in the fifth and three in the sixth. Bailey Caldwell had two hits and three RBI for the Hurricanes while Kinleigh King had two hits and two RBI. Caldwell whiffed five with two walks and five hits in the complete-game win. Appling County took a 5-2 lead after two in the nightcap and held it until Rutland tied it with three in the fifth. The Hurricanes put it away with six in the seventh, sparked by Alexis Hollis’s one-out grand slam that put Rutland up 9-5. The Hurricanes added two on Lacey Caldwell’s two-out single to left. Rutland gave up four unearned runs on five errors while Appling County coughed up eight on six errors and seven walks. Next: Calhoun or Jackson County.

Dixiana Sims struck out nine with four walks in a no-hitter in the opener, Pelham turning a walk and throwing error in the seventh into the shutout-breaker. Lizzy Mitchell and Mary Elizabeth Ballard did damage, teaming to go 7 for 8 with three RBI and three runs. Destiny Lucas added two hits. A three-run fourth put ACE in control in the second game, the Gryphons sealing it with nine in the sixth, aided by seven Pelham errors. Sara Winters went 3 for 5 at leadoff with three RBI and two runs, Lizzy Mitchell going 3 for 4 with three RBI and two runs at cleanup. Sims had two hits and two RBI in the 12-hit attack. Mary Elizabeth Ballard sat down nine batters with a walk and seven hits in six innings. Next: at Trion.

Four Eagle errors led to seven unearned runs, Crawford County not helped by giving up nine walks in the opener. Kirsten Wolters had three hits, while Ashanti Edwards and Samantha Lancaster had two hits each and combined for seven RBI. Gracie Collins added two runs. Kaitlyn Newman threw a five-hitter on 77 pitches in six innings, with a strikeout and two walks. Next: at Marion County
