          Brentwood grad Caroline Snider of Georgia College is the latest Peach Belt softball player of the week.
          The senior from Tennille went 10 for 17 in six games at the Charger Chillout, with 12 RBI and six runs, on four doubles and three triples during the week.
          The Bobcats visit West Georgia on Wednesday.
          Ryan Jones isn't showing any nerves early in his college baseball career.
          The FPD grad is the USA South rookie of the week after going 4-for-10 with three runs, two doubles, and four RBI in his first season at Maryville (Tenn.)
          The Scots went 3-0, boosted by his .538 on-base percentage. He scored the go-ahead run in one win. He sparked a comeback win with three hits and two runs. ...
          Mercer's Nick Spear will open the season on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year watch list.
          He leads active Southern Conference pitchers in career opposing batting average (.226), saves (13), and strikeouts per nine innings (12.27).
          Mercer opens the season Friday against visiting Evansville. ...
          Middle Georgia State took a pair of Southern State honors, one in baseball and one in softball.
          MJ Rookard is the player of the week, for the third time, after helping the No. 17 Knights take a series from No. 6 St. Thomas.
          He hit .556 with four runs, four RBI, and five hits, reaching base eight times in 12 plate trips.
          Caroline Newton is the softball pitcher of the week after gong 1-1 with seven runs allowed in 15 innings, and six strikeouts. She got the complete-game win in a win over Point.

Last week
          Former FPD track standout Maggie Johnston of Samford is the Southern Conference field athlete of the week.
          The sophomore hit a career best in the shot with 13.59 meters last Sunday, good for fifth at a meet. ...
          Amanda Thompson, to the surprise of few, is the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the month.
          It's the second straight time for the Mercer senior, who  averaged 16.8 points and 12.8 rebounds, shooting 52 percent from the floor and 71 percent from the line.
          She opened January with four straight double-doubles and finished the month with seven.
          Thompson is averaging 17 points and 12.9 rebounds. ....
          Georgia College's Bradley Cammack is the Peach Belt pitcher of the week.
          The senior threw five shutout innings against Paine, which hit .176 against him.
