GHSA wrestling: Thursday's update, through winner's bracket quarterfinals
The second day of action at the GHSA traditional wrestling tournament wasn’t quite as good for West Laurens as the first.
But the Raiders are still in first, through the quarterfinals.
West Laurens has an 8.5-point lead over Woodward and 14.5 points up on Central Carroll, holding on despite going 5-4 in the winner’s bracket on Thursday.
Perry had a nice day, and has moved up into eighth with 38 points, 37.5 behind West Laurens.
Thursday was good for Veterans, which went 6-2 and jumped up to third place in 5A with 67 points, behind Buford (86.5) and Woodland-Cartersville (85).
Lamar County is in eight place in AA with 30 points, Social Circle cruising along up top with 70 points.
Veterans’ Francis Morrissey and West Laurens’ Spencer Dacus remained undefeated with wins.
Baldwin’s Catherine Mullis and Veterans’ Markayla Stewart won both matches in the first year of girls wrestling.
Nearly two dozen area boys are 2-0. The semis begin at noon with A and AA, with 3A and girls starting at 1:30 p.m., 4A and 5A at 3 p.m., and 6A at 4:30 p.m. Assorted consolations take place all day.
