National Signing Day 2019, Central Georgia high schools sending nearly 60 onward

Whew. That appears done. Almost 60 Central Georgians are on the list, most with some of their resumes - except some late- afternoon additions, which will be filled in later. Odds are a few more names today, and in the coming week.

The first set of ceremonies was set for 10:30 a.m., with Dublin and Howard, followed by Jones County at 11:15 a.m.

A little after  11 a.m. came Central Georgia’s first power-5 player of the day.

Dublin defensive lineman Steve Linton had caps for Syracuse, South Florida, and Arizona State on the table in front of him. He acknowledged one, then flat threw down another one before putting on the Syracuse cap.

Fans appeared a little confused when teammate Jermaine Cooley pulled out a big Tennessee banner. The versatile standout is, in fact, head to the state, to Tennessee-Martin, where he may be joined by another Central Georgian or two before the signing period is over.

Jones County’s Ja’Darien Boykin became the second power-5 player, picking Louisville.

Mary Persons has 11 players signing, the Bulldogs’ biggest class ever, with a few more to come down the line. Savannah State did well in Forsyth as the Tigers continue to try to stabilize their program.

Westfield’s Tyler Malakius will give UGA a shot as a preferred walk-on.

Westfield’s Tyler Malakius will give UGA a shot as a preferred walk-on.

Westfield’s Tyler Malakius isn’t signing a scholarship letter of intent, but may do that down the line. He’s headed to Georgia on preferred walk-on status. The same status goes for Mary Persons’ Kanidric Jones to Savannah State.

Some players may have already signed and participated in Wednesday’s ceremonies, the traditional national signing day.
