Those involved in the greatest moment in school athletics history will be back on campus Saturday when Mercer honors the 2013-14 men’s basketball team just shot of five years after the Bears stunned Duke in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
A pregame reception from 3-4 in the President’s Dining Room on the concourse level of Hawkins Arena is open to the public.
The senior-dominated team went 27-9 and beat Florida Gulf Coast on the Eagles’ home court to win the Atlantic Sun conference tournament. The Bears, who knocked off Seton Hall and Mississippi during the regular season, grabbed national attention after beating Duke in Raleigh, N.C., in the first round, and then – led by senior guard Kevin Canevari –for their postgame celebration.

This week's signings
There was more to signing to play football this week, and a few Central Georgians in other sports autographed a letter of intent:
After committing back in April, Houston County volleyball standout Maira Marsh signed with Mississippi State.
Also: Northside jumper and sprinter Jordan Shealey signed with Lenoir-Rhyne, which finished third last year in the South Atlantic Conference meet. Peach County’s Kenzie Langley is headed to ABAC for soccer.
Honor Roll

The sophomore hit a career best in the shot with 13.59 meters last Sunday, good for fifth at a meet. ...
Amanda Thompson, to the surprise of few, is the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the month.
It's the second straight time for the Mercer senior, who averaged 16.8 points and 12.8 rebounds, shooting 52 percent from the floor and 71 percent from the line.
She opened January with four straight double-doubles and finished the month with seven.
Thompson is averaging 17 points and 12.9 rebounds. ....
Georgia College's Bradley Cammack is the Peach Belt pitcher of the week. The senior threw five shutout innings against Paine, which hit .176 against him.
