Veterans' Buzzell wins state title, Warhawks and Bleckley County take second (updated Wed. AM)

          Mailey Buzzell is a state golf champion, and she helped Veterans’ girls to a second-place finish on Tuesday.

          Results for some classifications were delayed or incomplete until Wednesday morning with no explanations from the GHSA. The story and stats have been updated.

          The Warhawks in 5A were joined in the No. 2 spot by Bleckley County’s girls in Class AA with ACE’s boys fourth in Class A-Public as the GHSA golf tournaments, held throughout the state, Monday and Tuesday.

          Bleckley County finished second for the second straight year, with three top-10 finishers.

          Defending Class 3A girls champ Rutland finished third. ACE’s boys finished fourth in A-Public and Dodge County’s boys fifth in 2A. Full results for all classes are here.

          Buzzell shot an 8-over 150 for two rounds, topping Liza Eubanks of Starr’s Mill by three strokes. Buzzell finished second last year.

          Rutland’s Eujin Pyon finished fourth and Jenny Pyon eighth.

          FPD’s boys tied for fifth in Class A-Private, led by ninth-place Luke Dasher. Stratford’s Josie Coleman finished tied for ninth in Class A-Private girls.

          Monday results were delayed for Class 4A girls and Class 3A girls, and the format for reporting results was inconsistent or incomplete until Tuesday.

          On Monday, West Laurens girls shot a 309, far behind first-place Columbus’s 226. Howard was five spots behind West Laurens with a 340.

          Rutland was in third, 32 strokes behind Pierce County and 25 behind North Hall.

          Rutland’s Eujin Pyon was tied for third after one, five strokes back and six ahead of sixth-place teammate Jenny Pyon.
