Braves Report

          In the battle of the good young pitcher and the good veteran pitcher, youth won out.

          Mike Soroka went into the seventh inning and gave up but two runs as Atlanta topped the NY Mets and Jacob deGrom 6-2.

          Austin Riley’s two-run homer in the second off of the reigning Cy Young winner sparked the Braves, who clinched it with Johan Camargo’s three-run double in the eighth.

          Freddie Freeman, Nick Markakis, and Riley had two hits each, Riley adding two RBI.

Macon pitcher on Coastal Plain fan team

          Cort Roedig is Macon’s representative on the fan-vote Coastal Plain League All-Star team

          Roedig is seventh in innings pitched for Macon and eighth on the team in ERA among pitchers with double-digit innings. He has pitched in three games.

          Roedig, a rising sophomore at Georgia Tech from Orlando,  and the fan roster teammates are part of an expansive all-star event.

 

Lexington County nips Macon at Luther Williams

          A two-run seventh lifted Lexington County to a 4-3 win over defensive-addled Macon in Coastal Plain action.

          The Bacon had four errors that led to only one unearned run, according to stats provided. Three runs came after errors.

          The Blowfish won it on an error, wild pitch, single, fly, and another single in the seventh.

          Nathan Schreckengost and Daniel Harris split four of Macon’s six hits.

          Macon is at Florence on Saturday, at Lexington County on Tuesday, and back home against Lexington County on Wednesday. The Bacon visit Forest City on July 4 and Lexington County on July 5.
