Honor Roll

          Middle Georgia State standout, and current member of the Macon Bacon, Zach Cornell has been named to the Google Cloud NAIA academic All-America team.

          Cornell has a 3.55 in marketing.

          Stratford assistant tennis coach Ramsey Earnhart was inducted into the U.S. Professional Tennis Association's Southern Division Hall of Fame during the group's annual conference in Raleigh, N.C.

          Earnhart had reached a national ranking of No. 2 in doubles and No. 11 in singles, and played at Southern California. He was an NCAA doubles champ and two-time singles semifinalist with the Trojans.

          That helped earn him a spot in the NCAA Hall of Fame in 2001.

          He has been on Stratford's staff since 2011-12. Earnhart owns certified Elite Professional status with the USPTA. ...

          Mercer won the Southern Conference's Barrett-Bonner Award for the fourth straight year.

          It goes to the SoCon school with the highest percentage of student-athletes on the conference honor roll. Mercer has the longest streak of winning the award since ex-member Davidson took it six years from 2008-09 to 13-14. ...

          Perry alum Cal Gentry of Georgia College keeps adding to the resume, now with being picked for the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Southeast Region team.

          He made the second team in the infield, earning honors now on two of the groups that pick all-region teams, being named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-Southeast Region team last week.

          Gentry led the PBC with a .413 average, to go with 30 RBI and 42 runs. ...

          Georgia College's golf team won the Peach Belt's sportsmanship award for that sport. The head coaches in the conference vote on the award, which Georgia College also won in 2013-14.

          Both Georgia College tennis teams took the sportsmanship trophy in their respective sports. ...

          Georgia College's Robin Möller was named the PBC male scholar-athlete of the year at the league's annual awards dinner in Hilton Head. It's the highest honor given by the conference, and is selected by the PBC's faculty athletic representatives.

          It's been a resume-boosting spring for Möller, also won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award, and graduated with a degree in exercise science and a 3.94 GPA. He also earned a Google Cloud Academic All-District selection, along with making All-PBC first team in singles and doubles. He went 15-2 as the nation's No. 18 singles player this season.

          He and teammate Matt Rogel earned ITA All-America honors, Möller in singles and joining Rogel in doubles.

 

This week's signings

          Central Georgia Tech has added a pair of men's basketball players, Justin Tene from Howard Junior College and Dominic Pierce from Franklin Prep.
