Henley has strong tournament at Wyndham
Russell Henley followed up a strong John Deere Classic performance with another one at the Wyndham Classic.
The Stratford grad shot four straight under-par rounds for a 12-under 268, which was good for a tie for 31st in the tournament in Greensboro, N.C.
A whopping 47 golfers were 10-under or better, the field led by winner J.T. Poston’s 258, 22 under. He stormed to the win with a final-round 62, while three-round leader Byeong Hun An dropped to third with a 67. Webb Simpson, who shot no worse than 65 all week, was second.
Sunday’s 68 was Henley’s worst round of the tournament.
He countered two bogeys with three birdies on the front nine, with a lone birdie on the back nine. No. 18 got him three times with bogeys.
Henley finished with 20 birdies and 10 bogeys.
In between the John Deere and Wyndham, Henley finished 15th at the Barracuda Championship in WHEN. It uses a Stableford scoring format, which gives points for good holes and subtracts holes for bad ones.
Under normal scoring, Henley has shot 265 and 268 in the past two tournament, his best back-to-back performances by far this season. It’s the first time he’s had consecutive sub-270s since the 2016-17 season, a 269 in the RSM (tied for 10th) and 267 two months later in the Sony Open in Hawaii (267).
The Northern Trust in Jersey City, N.J. starts Thursday.

Braves Report
Heads are shaking after the trade subject who inspired so much optimism coughed up three runs in the top of the 10th as Atlanta lost 6-4 to Cincinnati to split the series.
Tucker Barnhart drilled a two-out three-run homer off Shane Greene for a three-run lead, Atlanta getting one back in the bottom half.
Atlanta, which outhit Cincy by one, stranded two more runners and was a wretched 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Julio Teheran left after five innings, and five strikeouts and six walks, plus three runs. Greene fell to 0-3.

Macon pops Savannah in playoff opener
Macon took the lead with a run in the eighth and extended the lead with three in the ninth en route to a 7-3 win at Savannah in the Coastal Plain League playoff opener.
The Bacon knocked out the Bananas, whose three errors helped lead to three unearned runs.
The CPL has one-game first rounds with division champs and/or second-place teams playing. The second round is single elimination, and the championship round is best of three.
Baseball 101 hurt Savannah, which hit Daniel Harris to open the ninth. He stole second, and went to third on a wild pitch an out later. Sean McQuillan walked, and Brandon Ashy tripled in two runs to right.
And then Ashy came in on a wild pitch.
Chris Rolick (Georgia College) succeeded Logan Carter on the mound. He got two outs, hit a batter who quickly advanced to second and then scored on an outfielder error. But Rolick then got a foulout to end the game.
Colton Yeager, Jared Miller, Harris, McQuillan, and Ashy had two hits each, Ashy with three RBI and McQuillan with two.
As of midnight, the league website and Bacon website had no information as to Sunday night's results and Tuesday's second-round pairings.
Monday AM update: Macon will host Forest City at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the second round, one game, of the playoffs.
