Two weeks, loads of Macon TD Club players of the week
Players from ACE, Covenant, Howard, Northeast, Rutland, Southwest, and Westside earned assorted player-of-the-week honors from the Macon Touchdown Club for the first two weeks.
Backs of the week: Westside QB Victor Dixon was 18 of 27 for 191 yards and three touchdowns in the opening win over Southwest.
Howard RB/WR Javarsia Meadows ran 15 times for 107 yards and three scores, and caught five passes for 120 yards and another touchdown, overall getting 231 all-purpose yard in the win over FPD.
Covenant quarterback Ethan White passed for 283 yards and three touchdowns with 95 yards on eight carries in a Georgia Association of Private and Parochial Schools 8-man football win over Young American Christian.
Linemen of the week: Defensive tackle Jerome Denson was good for 15 tackles and two sacks in the loss to Westside.
Sophomore offensive lineman Keyundre Whisby of Rutland graded out at 88 percent and had five pancake blocks as the Hurricanes broke a 23-game losing streak on Friday with a win over Hawkinsville.
Special-teams players of the week: Northeast sophomore D’Icey Hopkins accounted for 138 yards in punt returns, including an 80-yard touchdown, to go with three tackles at DB in the two-point loss to Trinity Christian-Sharpsburg.
ACE kicker Mason Maddox was perfect on two field goal attempts, of 42 and 27 yards, along with two touchbacks and two kickoffs inside the 10, in the win over Notre Dame Academy.
Those players will join others in accepting their awards and being recognized at the Touchdown Club’s first meeting, on Sept. 9 at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth on Pierce Avenue.
Longtime state and national college football analyst Tony Barnhart is the first speaker, with Windsor and Central Fellowship the high schools of the week.

FVSU, GMC to honor military, first responders this weekend
Fort Valley State has made Saturday night’s home opener against Miles “Military Appreciation Day”.
All members of the military with active duty ID and veterans with a valid ID will be admitted free, and there will be other activities to honor the military.
GMC will admit for free all first responders and law enforcement – with proper ID – at Saturday’s 6 p.m. game against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
Braves Report
Mike Foltynewicz had a decent night with five shutout innings, the offense stranded only six and went 4 for 11 with runners in scoring position, and never trailed in beating Toronto 8-2 for the series sweep.
The Braves take a six-game winning streak into an off day before hosting Washington, visiting Philadelphia and Washington, and then hosting Philadelphia and San Francisco.
The lead is 6.5 over Washington, which has won eight of its last 10, like Atlanta.
Josh Donaldson had two hits and three RBI, Freddie Freeman two hits and Tyler Flowers three RBI, all three belting doubles.
