FVSU introduces newest head football coach
After a week on the job, Maurice Flowers was introduced Friday as the new head football coach at Fort Valley State.
Flowers was hired on Dec. 23 to replace Kevin Porter, who was fired in mid-November after four years and an 18-23 record, plus a pair of SIAC championship-game visits.
Flowers is the sixth head coach this century at FVSU. Porter was the only head coach let go or forced out in the span with a losing record.
The Wildcats went 6-4 in 2019. As per the roster posted on the website late Friday night, FVSU will lose only 13 seniors and a grad student, including Brian Williams of Dublin, Garrel Quanton of West Laurens, and Qa Walker of Westside.
Bryce Gowdy was a perfect fit at Georgia Tech
The receiver from South Florida was anxious to be a part of the Georgia Tech rebuild, and head coach Geoff Collins was excited to have him.
The Yellow Jackets, however, could only mourn his death by suicide on Dec. 30, and wonder about how well the two appeared to fit, as per a story on SI.com.
