Wednesday's Daily News 'n Notes: Georgia tops Baylor in Sugar; GMCs' Williams diagnosed with cancer; Mercer falls on the road

Wednesday's Central Georgia - and of interest to Central Georgia - news and notes, compiled from staff reports, email reports, the web, and social media.
Georgia 26, Baylor 14
Jake Fromm was good, George Pickens was really good, young players stepped up, a fake field goal worked, and the playbook was opened up a little bit.
The result was a two-score win by Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, this year’s visit bearing little resemblance to the flat Bulldogs in last year’s 28-21 loss to Texas in New Orleans.
The night ended with no news on potential NFL defections.

GMC coach Williams battling cancer
Longtime GMC junior college head football coach Bert Williams was diagnosed with cancer a month ago, according to a Tweet Wednesday morning from his son Parker.
Bert Williams opened the 2019 season with his 150th win as head coach of the Bulldogs, one of two active junior college coaches to reach that milestone. The 2010 inductee into the National Junior College Athletic Association Football Hall of Fame is in his second decade at the school and just completed his 19th as head coach.
