Richmond Hill 52, Northside 12

          Turnovers killed the Eagles, who were down 31-0 at halftime.

Class 5A

Jones County 62, Union Grove 22

          As expected, the Greyhounds righted things, leading 34-9 at halftime.

Warner Robins 44, Houston County 10

          The Demons scored on a flurry late in the second quarter on a fumble recovery, bad punt snap, and interception return for a 27-0 halftime lead.

 

Class 4A

Rutland 50, ACE 21

          The Gryphons made the Hurricanes sweat, trailing by six at halftime before Rutland started taking control.

Howard 17, Effingham County 14

          The Huskies trailed 14-10 at halftime on the road.

Veterans 24, Perry 14

          The Panthers didn’t let the 5A No.5 team much room.

Westside 35, Southwest 6

          The Seminoles blew it open in the first half en route to a 28-6 halftime lead.

Class 3A

Central 23, Americus-Sumter 11

          The Chargers are 1-0 in region play for the first time since 2017.

Peach County 42, Mary Persons 7

          The Trojans have outscored the Bulldogs 86-20 in the past two seasons.

Upson-Lee 41, Pike County 0

          It’s the Knights’ first shutout since24-0 over Howard on Oct. 21, 2016, and biggest region win since 42-0 over Stockbridge in 2004.

Class AA

Dodge County at Whitfield Academy, Saturday, 2 p.m.

Jasper County/Monticello 30, Greene County 6

          The Hurricanes led 16-0 at halftime.

Northeast 14, Monroe 12

          The 2-1 Raiders are off to their best start since 3-0 in 2017.

Washington County 17, Evans 7

          It was 7-all at halftime, WACO taking the lead with a field goal in the final seconds of the third quarter.

Putnam County 37, Westside-Augusta 14

          The War Eagles have given up all of 16 points in four games, and are 1-0 in region play for the first time since 2015.

Class A

Creekside Christian 40, Wilkinson County 14

          The Warriors went down hard to a GISA Class AAA team.

Calvary Day 42, FPD 17

          The Vikings were in a 21-3 halftime hole.

Hancock Central 36, GMC 7

Taylor County 48, Greenville 19

          The No. 8 Vikings had little trouble improving to 3-0 for the first time since 2017, which included a 58-22 win over Greenville.

Macon County 63, Central Talbotton 6

          The No. 3 Bulldogs last cracked 60 points not that long ago, 68-0 over Twiggs County in early 2018.

Montgomery County 21, Hawkinsville 19

          Montgomery County came back from a 19-9 deficit to win it with about two minutes left.

Stratford 20, Mount Paran 0

          Mark Farriba got his 200th career win with the Eagles’ first shutout since thumping Twiggs County 36-0 near the end of the 2018 season.

Savannah Country Day 28, Tattnall 24

          The Trojans led 21-0 after three, and the visitors stormed back in the fourth for the shocking win.

Dublin 42, Swainsboro 14

          The well-rested Irish had little rust, charging out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and cruising.

Terrell County 41, Crawford County 0

          Crawford County was blanked for the second game in a row.

          A schedule change had no impact on the Trojans, who took the foot off the gas in the second half after getting all their points in the first half.

          The homecoming win lifted the Hornets to their first 2-0 start since 2014.

          The War Eagles averaged 6.6 yards per run and gave up a yard per run in the rout.
