Veterans mourns death of young player
A little more than a week after collapsing at practice, Veterans freshman football player D.J. McDowell died at the age of 14.
He was airlifted to a childrenâs hospital in Atlanta to be treated for a cardiac condition, according to a social media post. He passed away Tuesday morning.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than $12,000 of a $25,000 goal to help with medical and funeral expenses. Fund-raising through the sale of t-shirts has also been started.
Veterans travels to Ware County this Friday, and then hosts Warner Robins next week in the last game of the regular season.
Warner Robins-Coffee game ppd. for COVID
All of a sudden, Warner Robins has this week off.
Coffee announced Tuesday afternoon that it was suspending football operations âdue to COVID-19 concernsâ as âa precautionary measure to ensure the health and safetyâ of participants.
That means this Fridayâs game at McConnell-Talbert Stadium has been canceled, and that the Demons will enter the playoffs as the top seed from Region 1-5A.
The Demons are 2-0 in region play while the Trojans are 2-1. Ware County (6-1/1-1) hosts Veterans (4-4/0-2) this week. Warner Robins is the only team undefeated in region play.
