CGTC gets national tournament update

          Central Georgia Tech opens play in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s national men’s basketball tournament as the 23rd seed.

          The Titans play 10th seed Vincennes, Ind., on Monday, March 16, at 5:30 p.m. in Hutchinson, Kansas.

          On the other side of the bracket is the team with the Central Georgia trio of Cam Holden (Mary Persons), Maurice Gordon (FPD), and Jacolbey Owens (Warner Robins) and Gulf Coast State.  

          GCS is seeded eighth and gets a first-round bye, facing the winner of Ranger and Columbia State.

 

GHSA extends Hines’ contract, discusses other topics

          The GHSA Board of Trustees met in an agenda item added at their meeting Monday, and approved a three-year contract extension for executive director Robin Hines.

          The board met in Thomaston Monday morning, with a controversy-free agenda.

          Hines told the board that more than 160 schools are set to have flag football teams in the fall, and said the early plans are for state championships at Georgia State Stadium on Dec. 11-12, during the boys state championships.

          The possibility of legislation regarding home-schooled students playing for GHSA teams was note.

          Andrew Garnett and Justin Smith had two hits each for Howard, Garnett driving in two runs. Lee Martin went five innings and struck out six for the win.

John Milledge 11, Loganville Christian 1

          The Trojans marched out to a 5-1 lead after two, and rolled despite only four hits, thanks to four errors and 10 walks. Dalton Prestridge had two hits and four RBI for John Milledge. Jackson Carter fanned six with a walk and three hits in five innings.

Johnson County 19, Dublin 6

          The Irish gave up 13 unearned runs, thanks to seven errors, plus 13 walks. Arshon James had two hits for the Irish.

LaGrange 2, Upson-Lee 1

          LaGrange put across the winner in the fifth, getting a three-hitter on the mound.

Mount de Sales 10, Central 0

          The Cavs took control with five in the second. Kobe Butts and Cade West had two hits each, Parthiv Patel driving in two runs. Thomas Smith went four innings and Elijah Freeman one to combine for a one-hitter.

Stratford 4, Hawkinsville 1

          Stetson Hatcher, Jase Smith, and Dell Sikes had two hits each for Stratford, which got a complete-game three-hitter form Micah Takac.

Taylor County 6, Crawford County 4

          The seventh inning was loaded with action, Taylor County putting up three in the top half and Crawford County two in the bottom. Evan Hinton went 3 for 4 with three RBI for the Vikings.

Union Grove 4, Jones County 2

          Union Grove’s two-run second was the difference, Jones County managing only two hits but three errors.

Veterans 5, Perry 3

          Veterans took a 3-1 lead in the fifth, and countered Perry’s two-run top of the sixth with three in the bottom half, winning despite being outhit 5-4. Ethan Bearden had two hits and two RBI for Perry.
