Central Georgians make Dooley Awards lists
Four Central Georgia high schoolers were finalists for the top scholarships in the 13th annual Vincent J. Dooley Scholarships, announced Tuesday
FPD’s Anna Lako and Camden Lashley plus Trinity Christian’s David Coleman and West Laurens’ A.J. Mathis were among the 30 finalists, behind Sovi Wellons of Heritage for the girls and Quinn Harron of Marist for the boys.
Those two won $1,000 each year for four years, as well as $500 each to donate to a charity.
Several other Central Georgians are Dooley Award recipients: Dublin: Brianna McRae and Jalen Carter; FPD: Lako and Lashley; Lamar County: Aderrius Barron; Peach County: Bryce McGuire and Abbygail Hatchett; Stratford: Mary Elaine Mitchell and Kieran MacKinnon; Trinity Christian: Ruthie Scott and Coleman; West Laurens: Molly Hutto and Mathis.
The annual banquet honoring all, however, has been canceled.
FPD’s Karsen Ochs and Stratford’s William McKinley Thompson III were last year’s top scholarship winners. Sadie Frame of FPD was the girls winner two years ago.
