Wednesday's Daily News 'n Notes: Help wanted at Georgia College; UGA basketball, Tech football, Falcons, Braves, and more

Wednesday's Central Georgia - and of interest to Central Georgia - news and notes, compiled from staff reports, email reports, the web, and social media.
Eller resigns at Georgia College
Jason Eller talked about the “family first” culture at Georgia College, and Eller is taking that to the next level.
Family led Eller to announce his resignation Wednesday night as Georgia College head baseball coach.
"We will be moving to my birthplace, and I will be rejoining East Cobb Baseball where my baseball coaching journey began,” he said in a release. “The student-athletes at GC are some of the best in the nation and I wish them and all of the Bobcat athletic programs nothing but continued success.
"I have worked in several athletic departments and the family-first culture at GC is second to none. The emphasis on taking care of loved ones has led me to make the decision to take my family back to my hometown of Kennesaw."
Eller took over at Georgia College in the middle of July 2016, after then-head coach Tom Carty and assistant coach Zeke Mitchem suddenly resigned in early May of 2016.
Eller went 66-81 at Augusta, a Peach Belt team, and led the team to a No. 18 ranking in 2016, its first visit to a poll since 2005.
He spent 11 seasons on Georgia’s staff, seven as a full-time assistant.
Eller stepped in to a good situation and kept it there, going 118-50 overall in three-plus seasons, 66-27 in the Peach Belt.
Georgia College was 13-2 overall and 9-2 in conference play when the season was stopped.
Eller’s successor has to replace some major players, like Perry grad Cal Gentry and pitcher Kyle King.
But the Bobcats only had two other seniors, pitcher Harrison Veldsma and utility player K.C. Brown.
