The longtime pro at Idle Hour has been inducted into the Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame, joining former player Brian Vahaly. Georgia men’s head coach Manny Diaz has been awarded the Coach Dan Magill Impact Award.
The Class of 2020 will be inducted next summer in conjunction with the 2021 ATP Truits Atlanta Open.
Jones came to Macon in 2005 after serving as the director of tennis at Coosa Country Club. He has been a tennis director/pro for 37 years, helping more thn 150 players to college scholarships. Nearly three dozen more became directors or coaches.
He is a 10-time Georgia Davis Cup coach, and three-time winner of the USTA state Pro of the Year and Southern Intersectional coach. In 2010, half of the 10 Peach State Junior Qualifier age division titles went to a Jones student.
Positives sideline Putnam County football
Three positive tests for COVID-19 were confirmed Monday inside the Putnam County football program, with another person connected to the team showing some symptoms.
The War Eagles, who went 5-6 last year, will suspend football until Aug. 10, eight days after the first full day of practice. GHSA teams started the acclimation period on Monday.
