Henley strong on Sunday, gets a top-10 finish
Russell Henley had some teases on Sunday, spending a few holes in among the top five at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
He hit his ceiling and slowly dropped back a bit, but not much, and finished tied for ninth with a 16-under 264.
Henley was in the group at 264 with co-Georgian Patrick Reed and No. 5 Sungjae Im.
The performance pushed him to 101st in FedEx Cup points and safely into the first round of the playoffs.
It was his lowest score of the season by six strokes (Travelers, late June), and best since as a pro since a 256 won the Sony Open in January of 2013, ranking as his second-best score.
Henley started the day tied for 14th, and stayed on point, with four birdies on the front nine. Included was a 43-footer for birdie on par 3 No. 7.
He added birdie on 12 before his first bogey of the day two holes later. He just missed an eagle on 15 and settled for a birdie to get back to 6-under and up into a tie for fifth.
A long birdie try on 17 just missed, as did a makeable birdie try on 18.
Jim Herman was the last of many leaders to get the win and qualify for the FedEx playoffs.

Macon nips Savannah for abbreviated CPL division title
A five-run third inning put Macon on top, and the Bacon held off Savannah for a 6-5 win in the Coastal Plain League’s Southern Division championship.
Macon and Savannah made up two of the three teams in the division, joined by Lexington County, with the vast majority of the league not playing this year.
The Bacon used small ball with only five hits, including a homer from Josh Hood in the cleanup spot. That took care of three runs in the big third, Macon getting RBI hits from Trevor Austin (Mercer) and Cassius Young (Georgia College).
Starter Ty Bothwell went five innings and got the win, striking out six with three walks and four runs. Jack Sinclair got his first save, surviving a one-run ninth.
