This week's Central Georgia scouting reports

This week's Central Georgia scouting reports

Four games have been postponed: Pike County-Taylor County, Stratford-Westfield, Perry-Hampton, and Dodge County-West Laurens.

Games of the Week

Griffin at Peach County
Peach County was held to single digits for the second, well, stunningly, second straight game. The Trojans lost 36-3 in last year’s state title game. Last regular-season output that low? The weather-stopped 33-0 loss to Lee County in 2018. Last time against an unranked team in the regular season? Jackson won 3-2 on Oct. 16, 2015.

Howard at Northside
The Huskies are playing their first game in program history against a 6A program, and third opponent from Houston County.

Jones County at Veterans
Veterans ranked for the sixth straight week, by far a program best. Jones County is unranked for the second straight week, the first time that’s happened since 2016. The Greyhounds haven’t been 0-3 since 2011, but the few teams have opened with three opponents like Grayson, North Gwinnett, and Veterans.

Lamar County at Jackson
They’re almost neighbors and have played 34 times, but only eight times this century.  Jackson leads 5-3 since 2000 and 24-10 overall. But Lamar County may have something going this year.

The Games

6A

Houston County at Coffee
Coffee has won eight straight, dating back to 2006. As region rivals, it’s four straight, with only one close game, 42-35 in 2016.

4A

Central at Westside, Ed DeFore
The magic number here is 18. That’s how many straight wins the Seminoles have against the Chargers. The last two margins have been by 12 and four points.

Rutland at Luella
The Hurricanes visit a team that hasn’t had a winning season since 2008.

3A

Greene County at Mary Persons
Class A Greene County’s last win over a 3A program or higher was 13-12 over then-3A Morgan County in 2016. The Bulldogs’ last loss to a Class A team? Been awhile.

Upson-Lee at Harris County
The schools aren’t too far apart, but have only played eight times (and six times as R.E. Lee), the Thomaston team overall owning a 12-2 mark.

AA

East Laurens at Bryan County
The teams haven’t played since 2003. Bryan County has won one game in the past three seasons.

Putnam County at Jasper County/Monticello
Putnam County has to get past last week’s overtime thriller, but it won’t be hard, considering these two have played 60 times. The War Eagles have a 33-26-1 lead, and it’s been back and forth in recent years, usually a defensive battle.

South Atlanta at Bleckley County
The Hornets are looking for their fourth straight playoff trip, while the Royals try to avenge last week’s loss in the final seconds.

Therrell at Northeast, Thompson
The Raiders have lost five of their last six openers, and host a 1-0 team that hasn’t won more than four games since 2002.

Thomson at Washington County
This is Washington County’s third-most common opponent, and it’s not been good for the Golden Hawks, who are 12-28. They haven’t played since 2015, a 49-42 Thomson win.

A

Crawford County at Lee County
An unexpected scheduling move on both sides, considering the Eagles recently played a non-region schedule, and the Trojans are a big-school powerhouse.

FPD at Brookstone
The last time the Vikings opened up 2-0 was 2016. And who was the second victim of the season? Brookstone, by a 34-13 score, in Columbus.

Hawkinsville at Baconton
Hawkinsville struggled on offense last week in a 7-3 loss to Tattnall, but may get a chance to get going against Baconton, which started in 2010 and isn’t playing a region schedule this year.

Johnson County at Wilkinson County
This series is tied a 14, the visiting Trojans having won four straight at Wilkinson County.

Tattnall at ACE
It’s ACE’s debut at its home stadium after a few years of bouncing around Bibb County’s public facilities.

GISA

Briarwood at Brentwood
Brentwood opened up against AAA defending champ John Milledge, and that went about as expected. But the War Eagles have beaten Brentwood 42-7 and 44-27 the past two seasons, breaking a three-game losing streak.

Trinity Christian at Gatewood
The Gators are off their first win ever at Edmund Burke, and the Crusaders are off a 28-point hammering by Westfield, after losing to Edmund Burke..
