Macon TD Club welcomes former UGA standout Butler (the son)

Former UGA and NFL punter Drew Butler is Monday’s speaker at the Macon Touchdown Club.

The club meets at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, in the Rumford Center, at 304 Pierce Ave. It starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the program to begin around 7. Admission for non-members is $30.

Howard is the featured high school.

Butler played at Georgia from 2007-11 under Mark Richt, and led the nation in I-A punting in 2009, earning All-SEC honors. The son of Georgia punting great Kevin Butler, won the Ray Guy Award that season.

          He is a two-time All-American and one-time academic All-American.

Butler punted for Pittsburgh and Arizona, and played four seasons in the NFL (2012, 2014-16), averaging 42.9 punts on 216 tries. He was signed and release in between those jobs by Chicago and Detroit.

Butler now works for Icon Source, a Denver-based digital platform that matches athletes and brands, as per the new college sports name-image-likeness legislation. He is the executive vice president of the company’s collegiate division.

Georgia Southern athletics director Jared Benko is next week’s speaker.
