The Bears put the first one away quickly with a 12-1 lead after three, needing 4.5 innings. Brodie Chestnutt fanned eight with two walks in a five-hitter. Andrew Dunford drove in five runs on two hits and Gage Harrelson four on two, with three runs. Coleman Willis, Trent Ringer, and Garrett Hortman added two hits each. Coleman Willis did major damage in the five-inning nightcap, with a 10-strikeout one-hitter and five RBI on three hits, including a homer. Harrelson, Dunford, and Ringer had two-hit games.
5A-Ola 6, Veterans 2; Ola 3, Veterans 2; Veterans eliminated
The Warhawks led 1-0 after one, but Ola scored four in the third to pull away. Veterans stranded 11, getting one less hit than Ola. Brennan Mercer had three hits and Tanner O’Neal two for Veterans. Single runs in the fifth and sixth put Veterans up 2-1 in the nightcap, but Ola scored two in the top of the seventh – aided by a hit batter and two of Veterans’ four errors – and retired Veterans in order in the bottom half.
5A-Wayne County 12, Jones County 2; Wayne County 10, Jones County 2; Jones County eliminated
The hosts countered Jones County’s one run in the top of the second with seven in the bottom half. Aiden Payne had two of Jones County’s six hits, Greyhound pitching unable to manage strikeout in four innings. The Yellow Jackets led the nightcap 3-1 after one and put it away a few innings later. Aiden Payne had two of Jones County’s five hits.
4A-Cairo 7, Perry 3; Perry 6, Cairo 5; Thursday, 3 p.m., at Perry
The Panthers were down 4-3 after six, only to watch the visitors put up three in the top of the seventh and give up only a double in the bottom half. Tyler Newhouse and Carson Bryant had two hits each for the Panthers. Perry evened it with the nightcap, trailing 2-1 after one and surviving a three-run fifth by Cairo, who then got a pair of two-out runners in the seventh only for reliever Jackson Mullis to get a game-ending flyout. Tyler Newhouse and Garrett Davis had two hits, and Tanner Knowles a homer for the 21-7 Panthers.
4A-Thomas County Central 10, Howard 0; Thomas County Central 14, Howard 0; Howard eliminated
The hosts went up 7-0 after three, needing only five innings in throwing a one-hitter. The teams combined for only seven hits. A 4-0 game in the nightcap ended after a pair of five-run TCC innings.
4A-West Laurens 5, Westover 1; West Laurens 10, Westover 0; vs. LaGrange
The Raiders got more than enough with four in the first, riding Colton Scott’s five strikeouts in five innings. Scott, Carson Estep, and Ethan Hart had two hits each, Tyler Franks with two RBI. Gunnar Jeffers, Eli Floyd, and Jace Clark teamed for a four-hitter and eight strikeouts in the nightcap. Franks and Matthew Mebane had three hits each, Franks with three RBI. Jeffers added two hits for West Laurens, which led 8-0 after three.
AAA-Mary Persons 15, Windsor Forest 0; Mary Persons 20, Windsor Forest 2; vs. Tattnall County or Harlem
The Bulldogs gave head coach Clae Mathis his 150th win while advancing in a pair of three-inning routs. Mary Persons also set a program record for 26 wins in a season.
