Maconite Hatcher to speak at Macon Touchdown Club
Samford head coach and Mount de Sales grad Chris Hatcher is Monday night’s speaker at the Macon Touchdown Club.
The club meets at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, in the Rumford Center, at 304 Pierce Ave. It starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the program to begin around 7. Admission for non-members is $30.
GMC head coach Rob Manchester is next week’s speaker.
Hatcher is in his eighth season at Samford, and is 45-37 after Saturday’s 28-14 win over Wofford. He is 166-94 in 22 seasons at Valdosta State (76-12), Georgia Southern (18-15), Murray State (27-30), and Samford.
The Mount de Sales grad led Valdosta State as a player, passing for 11,363 yards and 121 touchdowns, earning the Harlon Hill Trophy – Division II’s Heisman – in 1994.
He returned to VSU as head coach and led the Blazers to the Division I national title.
The Bulldogs are trying for their seventh winning season in eight under Hatcher. Samford has several Central Georgians: QB David Coleman of Trinity Christian, QB Miles Morris of Tattnall, LB Josiah Cotton of Mount de Sales, OL Luke Byrne of Mary Persons, and OL Jabari Brooks of Washington County,
