Around/about Central Georgia
Bogey-free round puts Henley in contention again
The best field in tournament history hasn’t fazed Russell Henley.
The Maconite shot a second straight 66 and headed to the clubhouse in mid-afternoon Saturday in the top 10 of the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head, and ended the day tied for 16th.
He matched Friday’s round with another 66 to go 9 under for the weekend, five back of leader Matt Fitzpatrick, who scorched the course with an 8-under on Saturday.
As was the case last week in Augusta, Henley barely missed additional birdies, coming within two feet or less on 3, 4, 9, 11 (six inches), 12, 14, 17, and 18.
Henley’s history at Harbor Town is quite a mixed bag. He missed the cut in five tries, twice with back-to-back misses despite under-par scores. Those are countered by two top-10 finishes, plus tied for 23rd and for 26th.
He tied for sixth in his first visit, in 2013.
