Around/About Central Georgia
Henley back in action
Russell Henley hasn’t played since having a quality Presidents Cup back in late September.
He picked a good place to resume play, albeit temporarily. Henley is among the first to tee off on Thursday in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.
And it’s quite the field, including Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Ludvig Aberg, and Brian Harman, among others.
The tournament is hosted by Tiger Woods, and has a field of only 20. It is on the PGA Tour schedule, but it an unofficial event, with money not included in ranking, yet does offer Official World Golf Ranking points.
GHSA flag football playoffs start Thursday
Nine of Central Georgia’s 20 teams are among those remaining out of 262 teams playing GHSA flag football this year as the playoffs start on Thursday.
Peach County in Division III, and Westside and Dodge County in Division I are host schools. Two rounds are played at host schools.
Central Georgia teams’ pairings - Division III: 2/3 Veterans vs. 8/2 Southwest DeKalb, at South Effingham; 8/4 Druid Hills at 2/1 Peach County (also Effingham County vs. South Paulding at Peach County); 8/3 Tucker vs. 2/2 Warner Robins, at Lithia Springs; 2/4 Houston County at 8/1 St. Pius X.
Division I: 5/4 Central at 1/1 Harris County; 1/4 Shaw at 5/1 Westside, 4 p.m. (also King’s Ridge vs. St. Vincent’s); 4/4 Metter at 3/1 Dodge County, 6 p.m. (also South Atlanta vs. Jackson-Atlanta); 5/3 Mary Persons vs. 1/2 Columbus, at Mount Vernon; 3/3 Fitzgerald vs. 4/2 Washington County, at Therrell.
The championships are Dec. 16-17 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Quarterfinal games are Dec.9 and semifinals on Dec. 12.
