ACE Charter 8, Berrien 7
Staring at a 3-run deficit and its season on the verge of ending, ACE scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off in the Class A/Division I playoff series finale. The Gryphons took advantage of Berrien’s inability to make fundamental throws. Two runs came in on an error on Avery Edalgo’s hit to left on which she reached third. The throw to home on Ava Allen’s bunt was dropped, allowing courtesy runner Emma Balkcom to score. Ella Allen slapped a pitch to first, and to a first baseman who dropped to her knees for the stop but couldn’t make a good throw home as Giselle Giles – who had walk – crossed the plate with the winning run.

Alumni Update
Homecoming set for Perry grad Wright this weekend
After two seasons at Virginia Tech and a season and a half at Mississippi, Dae’Quan Wright finally gets to play fairly close to home.
The 2022 Perry grad will be about two hours away and in the biggest game of his career on Saturday when the senior tight end and his Mississippi teammates visit Athens and Georgia.
The Rebels are No. 5 and the Bulldogs No. 9 in the latest AP poll.
It’ll be the fourth time Wright plays against a Peach State team.
He signed with Virginia Tech, and had no stats against Georgia Tech in a 28-27 loss in 2022.
Wright transferred to Mississippi after the 2023 season, having caught 47 passes for 574 yards and no TDs with the Hokies.
He had a catch for 14 yards against Georgia Southern and two for 23 against Georgia in 2024, and enters Saturday with 43 catches for 753 yards and seven touchdowns with the Rebels.
It’ll be the first game in Wright’s career in which his team and the opponent are both in the top 10.
