Class AAA
Westfield 6, John Milledge 1
Camilla Bloodworth was in control from the circle and struck out 13 Trojans to lead the Hornets to their ninth straight state title.
She gave up only four hits in the complete-game win with no walks.
Westfield took an early lead with a run in the first on doubles from Madeline Katz and Addison Happel. Then they added two in the third on Happel’s homer.
Meanwhile, Bloodworth retired three straight after two Trojan batters reached to open the second, setting them down in order in the first and third.
John Milledge got on the borad in the fifth when Laila Pounds opened the inning with a first-pitch homer to center. Bloodworth squelched the momentum by getting two outs and then stranding a runner after a single.
Westfield sealed it with three in the sixth. The first three batters reached on an error, fielder’s choice, and single to load the bases.
Savannah Scarisbrick brought in Avery Spence and Chloe Hill with a single to center, and L Hair came in an out later on Alyssa Nipper’s grounder to short.
Bloodworth needed 11 pitches in the top of the seventh to end the season.
Happell, Spencer, Hair, and Scarisbrick each had 2-hit games for Westfield.

Class AA

Southwest Georgia 3, Brentwood 1; Southwest Georgia 11, Brentwood 8
Brentwood hadn’t lost since Sept. 22, and lost twice within hours on Saturday, to a team it beat on Friday.
The War Eagles had seven hits in the first game, but couldn’t convert them into runs. Southwest Georgia had six hits, but was aided by two errors, all three runs being unearned.
Camryn Hancock had 3 of the War Eagles hits in the opener.
The War Eagles appeared headed toward a championship in the finale when they jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings. But the Warriors countered with the stronger finish with 4 in the fifth, 5 in the sixth, and 2 in the seventh.
Defense again was an issue, though for both teams. Southwest Georgia had four errors, but only surrendered one unearned run. The War Eagles had five errors, and coughed up eight unearned runs, thanks also in part to three hit batters.
