Rutland, FPD, Mount de Sales, Jones County rep Macon TD Club POTW
The Hurricanes, Cavaliers, Vikings, and Greyhounds make up this week’s Macon Touchdown Club players of the week.
Back: Junior quarterback/DB Tyson White of Rutland completed 8 of 13 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown, rushing for 92 more yards and two scores on 11 carries. On defense, he had five tackles in the 60-27 loss to No. 3 Morgan County.
Back: Senior Brady McHugh of FPD ran 22 times for 100 yards and caught nine passes for 45 yards and a score in the 21-10 win over Stratford. On the other side, he had 11 tackles, one for loss, and two pass breakups.
Lineman: Senior linebacker Caleb Linder of Mount de Sales totaled 14 tackles, four for loss, and a QB sack in the 10-0 win over Tattnall
Special teams: Senior kick returner/defensive back Junior Holloway of Jones County returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown and had five tackles in the Greyhounds’ 27-24 overtime win over McDonough.
Maconite Hatcher the Macon TD Club speaker of the week
Mount de Sales grad Chris Hatcher is this week’s speaker at the Macon Touchdown Club.
The club meets at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, in the Rumford Center, at 304 Pierce Ave. It starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the program to begin around 7. Admission for non-members is $30.
Mercer head coach Mike Jacobs is next week’s speaker, followed by streaming/radio host Josh Pate.
Hatcher is in his 11th season at Samford, falling to 61-56 after Saturday’s 45-21 loss at Mercer, dropping him to 182-113 in 26 years as a college head coach at Valdosta State (76-12), Georgia Southern (18-15), Murray State (27-30), and Samford, where he is the program’s winningest coach.
This will be only his seventh losing season as a head coach.
The Mount de Sales grad led Valdosta State as a player, passing for 11,363 yards and 121 touchdowns, earning the Harlon Hill Trophy – Division II’s Heisman – in 1994.
He returned to VSU as head coach and led the Blazers to the Division II national title.
The 0-6/0-4 Bulldogs have several Central Georgians on the roster: Veterans wideout Preston Bird, Putnam County cornerback Malik Thornton, offensive lineman Web Davidson of Tattnall, and ACE wideout Brice Whitley.
