Longtime coach Muschamp at Macon TD Club
Veteran defensive coach Will Muschamp is Monday’s speaker at the Macon Touchdown Club.
The club meets at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, in the Rumford Center, at 304 Pierce Ave. It starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the program to begin around 7. Cost is $30 for non-members.
UGA radio announcer Jeff Dantzler is the speaker next week, the final meeting of the season until the spring jamboree with Georgia head coach Kirby Smart.
Muschamp is a Rome native and Darlington School grad who walked on at Georgia at the same time as Smart. The two soon were on the same staff of Chris Hatcher at Valdosta State.
The 54-year-old has been an assistant at Auburn (three times), West Georgia, Eastern Kentucky, LSU, Miami Dolphins, Texas, and Georgia, and a head coach at Florida and South Carolina (55-51).
He was the SEC coach of the year in 2012 while at Florida, where he succeeded Urban Meyer.
At Georgia, Muschamp’s roles have ranged from assistant to analyst. He veered away from part of the job to spend more time watching his son Whit, who plays at Vanderbilt.
