Northeast sweeps Macon TD Club awards

Back: Junior Kortnei Williams of Northeast totaled 214 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns on offense to go with four tackles, a pass breakup, and an interception in the 41-0 playoff victory over Fannin County.

Lineman: Linebacker Maurice Wilson of Northeat had five tackles, two for loss, and an interception in the playoff win.

Special teams: Senior Demonta Dunn of Northeast was perfect on five PAT kick attempts against Fannin County.

Twiggs County wins GHSA reclass appeal

The only Central Georgia team interesting in moving from one region to another in the GHSA’s latest reclassification was Twiggs County.

And the Cobras got what they wanted.

Twiggs County sought to move from Region 4-A to 5-A, and that was approved unanimously on Monday at the reclassification committee’s final appeals meeting, in which teams appealed to move to a different region.

Initially, Twiggs County was placed with Dooly county, Hawkinsville, Telfair County, Turner County, Wheeler County, and Wilcox County.

The Cobras have spent the last two years with GMC Prep, Glascock County, Johnson County, Hancock Central, and Wilkinson County. The GHSA put Jenkins County in that region and Twiggs in 4-A.

Now, though, Twiggs County is back with familiar teams in that region, dropping 4-A to six teams and increasing 5-A to seven.

Region 7-A Public in 2021 – Twiggs County didn’t play any football in 2020 – had the same teams in the current region –minus Johnson County - as well as ACE Charter and Wilkinson County.

Another appeal affected a Central Georgia region. Swainsboro appealed to leave Region 3-AA, a Savannah-area gathering, for 2-AA with ACE, Bleckley County, Dodge County, Dublin, East Laurens, and Vidalia, and it was approved.
