GIAA baseball finals set to wrap up HS season
Four games at Synovus park get going Thursday morning in the final evens of the 2024-25 high school year.
Class A: Citizens Christian vs. Vidalia Heritage; Class AA: Gatewood vs. Southwest Georgia; Class AAA: Frederica vs. Pinewood; Class AAAA: FPD vs. Brookstone. The finals are a best-of-three series.
Gatewood is the top seed in AA while SW Georgia is second. The Gators are 24-10 according info provided to MaxPreps and 22-9 based on Gamechanger info, the Warriors 25-3.
Stats haven’t been updated in several games.
Gatewood returns all-staters Wilson Moore, Walker Roberts, Ames Johnson, and Lawson Moore from last year’s team that swept Southwest Georgia in the semis and beat Edmund Burke in the championship.
Henley eyes slump-breaking trip to Ohio
Since winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational in early March, Russell Henley has been in five tournaments.
He’s missed two cuts, and has one top-10 finish. In 16 rounds, he is a cumulative 4-under. In the five tournaments before that win, he was 59 under.
Having missed the cut at the PGA Championship, by a chunk, Henley tries to get back on track at the Memorial in Dublin, Ohio.
He tees off Thursday at 1:40 p.m., with Keegan Bradley.
Despite the recent woes, Henley is No. 7 in the FedExCup rankings, and eighth in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Henley has missed three of eight cuts at Dublin, after opening with a tie for sixth in his debut back in 2013. He has finished tied for 16th and 27th in his last two visits, shooting even par and 5 over.
