Prince Avenue names new fieldhouse after Farriba

Mark Farriba hasn’t been at Prince Avenue Christian since 2012-13, is not the Wolverines’ winningest coach in victories or percentage, and doesn’t have a state championship there.

But his impact on the then-young program he spent years with more than a decade ago was mighty big, so much so that the school named its new fieldhouse after him.

Farriba – who went 215-134-3 in 30 seasons as head coach at FPD, Stratford (twice), and Prince Avenue - and wife Ellie made their first visit to the facility in the spring.

Officially, Farriba was the school’s second head coach, after two years under Richard Ricketts. But the school labels him as the first official full-time coach, and builder of the program.

“When I first got there, we had 26 guys,” Farriba said. “Coach (Mark) Richt’s son was a senior quarterback, and we started going.”

The locker room back in 2007 had folding chairs and nails to hang clothes on, and no practice field.

Farriba went 42-26-1 in six seasons, and he was followed by Jeff Herron (31-6/3) and Greg Vandagriff (107-16/9).

Jon Richt is succeeding Vandagriff at PAC.

The new digs cover 6,500 square feet with all the modern and technological amenities.

Farriba went 24-4 his final two seasons at PAC, which has had 10 10-win seasons and two 9-win seasons since then, plus three state titles. He’s entering his fourth season as the offensive line coach at ACE Charter.
