Henley drops from contention, stays under par
Russell Henley’s putter was a little less cooperative than usual, and his 1-over third round Saturday put him in a tie for 30th at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Weather suspended play on Friday, and Henley had six holes to finish in the second round. He bogeyed the first hole of the round, but followed with two birdies for an even round.
His third round was fairly uneventful, with a birdie and two bogeys.
On no. 5, he found the left rough twice, then his 31-footer for par was off by a half foot.
After a string of pars, he somewhat repeated No. 5 on 17, going from rough to intermediate only for a great approach putting him within seven feet for par. But he couldn’t hit it and tapped in from two feet for bogey.
Weather was more cooperative and all 69 players finished.
Henley is locked in with eight others, including co-Bulldogs Harris English and Brian Harman, in the group at 30th. He tees off at 10:50 a.m. with Kevin Yu.
